December is upon us, and the countdown to Christmas is on! With so many fun holiday traditions in Cincinnati, it’s hard to know where to start. This year, my family decided to head to north to Warren County – Ohio’s Largest Playground – to experience one of Greater Cincinnati’s most beloved holiday traditions: WinterFest.
WinterFest at Kings Island is a magical winter wonderland that is a must for local families. Running select dates through Dec. 31, WinterFest absolutely lives up to the hype as Warren County’s most unforgettable holiday experience.
What sets WinterFest apart from the pack is that is really offers everything. Santa visits, ice skating, a dazzling lights display, holiday shows, live entertainment and delicious treats make WinterFest the ultimate holiday experience. WinterFest features countless exciting activities that everyone will enjoy.
WinterFest is filled to the brim with a variety of live entertainment (all of which is free with admission), most of which recur hourly. As we wandered through the park, we were treated to a variety of amazing performances. From Ebenezer Scrooge to the Gingerbread Man, all of these actors were exceptional and extremely entertaining!
For me, the Christmas lights were the best part. The park is filled with over 5 million lights, making it the most enchanting place to simply stroll through and look around. The Eiffel Tower is decked to the nines with lights, and at 5:30 pm, it became the biggest and brightest Christmas tree we’ve ever seen! (You won’t want to miss the Lighting Ceremony, which happens at 5:30 pm each night and is truly spectacular.)
Key to WinterFest is the location, which is, of course, Cincinnati’s most beloved amusement park. There are several rides open for the kids, as well as the Grand Carousel and the epic roller coaster, Mystic Timbers. My kids were especially excited about the rides — and Planet Snoopy offered an abundance of opportunities for my kids to get their adrenaline pumping.
You’ll want to give yourself several hours to explore WinterFest; my early-to-bed crew only scratched the surface of this holiday festival’s offerings. While rides, shows and many activities are included with admission, I definitely recommend splurging on a few of the extras — like Mrs. Claus’ Cookie Decorating or Snow Flake Ice Skating!
In WinterFest, Kings Island has put together an epic holiday experience that is top notch across the board. If you are trying to decide on just one holiday event this season, definitely consider WinterFest for all it offers and its ability to put you in the Christmas spirit.
