Golf in the winter? Are you crazy? It may be cold outside, but all the family fun (and cozy heated golf bays) can be found at Topgolf in West Chester. Right at Highway 75 and Union Centre (there’s no way you can miss it!) is Topgolf’s entertainment complex that combines friendly sports competition with your favorite local fare. Bring the entire family (no golf experience necessary) to enjoy interactive point-scoring games with a 240-yard outfield with dartboard-like targets and micro-chipped golf balls.
During winter break, my family and Miss P (future Women’s LPGA champion, BTW) took a morning to experience all Topgolf has to offer. We arrived at 9 a.m., just as the facility was opening; and there was already a crowd. Before playing at Topgolf, everyone in our party had to receive a $5 Lifetime membership card (register online) which keeps track of your score and game history and may be used at any of Topgolf’s U.S. locations. Then your party must rent a bay (1-6 people); there is a Hero’s Discount for military (active and veterans), police, fire and EMS personnel with a valid I.D.
We arrived at our 3rd level heated bay which included the golf tee, game system and a table and chairs for 6 people (even though bays are heated, we kept light jackets on). As we are all golfers (I use that term loosely), each of us brought our own golf clubs. However, Topgolf has clubs for men, women and kids which you can rent for FREE. There are dozens of games to choose from; and we began with TopGolf target practice. The games are fun for players of any skill level; and targets are set up so even the little ones can compete on equal ground and enjoy all the fun. And if you need a break from golfing? There are pool tables, video games, interactive games and more.
I’d heard wonderful things about Topgolf’s breakfast menu which includes kid friendly options like French Toast. Since we worked up quite the appetite, we ordered coffees, hot chocolates and the acclaimed French Toast. The food was so delicious, I can’t wait to come back to try the lunch and dinner menus (and perhaps a date night to enjoy a few cocktails). Then after a few hours of play, we were happily exhausted and full. My husband loved Topgolf so much, he joined a two-person golf league starting at the end of January. You can register for a league online.
Also, Topgolf has an exclusive kids’ club, KIDZONE, for ages 12 and under and it’s FREE! As a member, you’ll be the first to hear about upcoming events for kids or the entire family. Permission from a parent or guardian is required to enroll. And keep reviewing the calendar for spring and summer camp dates; or sign up for golf lessons for the entire family throughout the year. Topgolf also is a great venue for children and adult birthday parties.
This winter (or any season,) visit Topgolf for family fun. Topgolf does not take reservations. If patience is not your virtue, you may purchase a VIP Priority Pass when you have an active Topgolf account. Priority Passes give members the ability to select a specific date and time, up to 7 days in advance, and be added to the top of the bay list. Also, groups younger than 16 must be accompanied by an adult. So enjoy a day or evening at Topgolf, and feel like a pro!
