Looking for a unique family night out this fall? Located off of State Route 130 in Hamilton, Holiday Auto Theatre is one of Ohio’s last remaining drive-ins and a true hidden gem.
This Butler County drive-in theatre is a fun blast from the past!
Holiday Auto Theatre is a classic drive-in movie theatre has been in operation for over 60 years, and features the latest movies for the best double-feature (or triple) value. So pull up the car, grab some tasty snacks and enjoy Hollywood’s latest from under the stars.
The theatre is open Thursday through Sunday, with a variety of double or triple features you can enjoy from inside your car — or pop the trunk with a few lawn chairs. (Note: please do not leave the car running.) And the family value is incredible: you can enjoy 2-3 movies for just $9.25/adult and $5.50/child 4-11 (children under 3 are FREE). Please note: there’s no re-entry or rain checks.
You may buy your tickets online or at the on-site box office opens at 7:15 pm. On weekends, I highly suggest arriving early for the show. Parking spots are first-come, first-served and there are no saving spaces. And while you’re waiting for the film to begin, turn your radio to 90.7FM to listen to the oldies (lots of classic songs from the Grease soundtrack) and eventually the movie dialogue. On a Thursday night, my daughter and I viewed only the first movie (Disney’s new live-action The Lion King), which began at 8:20 pm. The second feature began at 10:30 pm, and unfortunately this mother-daughter outing was on a school night.
The Holiday Auto Theatre has a fantastic snack bar with tons of variety. We had the classic popcorn/soda combo and a box of Junior Mints which satisfied our sweet-and-salty cravings. However, if you want to bring in outside food, a food permit can be purchased for $5/car or group. With that, you will receive a $2 discount on a purchase of $5 or more at the snack bar. Also, you may not cook, grill or prepare food on the premises — and no alcoholic beverages are allowed at any time.
We enjoyed the movie from the comfort of my vehicle’s trunk. The night was a little chilly, so we snuggled with blankets, enjoyed our snacks and got carried away by The Lion King’s breathtaking presentation and music. The Holiday Auto Theatre was such a fantastic experience to share with my child by bringing a little of the past to present day.
