Unless you’ve lived in another city, you may not truly understand just how lucky we are to live in Cincinnati, a place where we can share the arts with our children at such a young age. Our city has so many opportunities for everyone to experience concerts, musicals, plays, and other types of artistic performances and one of our absolute favorites is The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati. I’ve taken my three-year-old and four-year-old to a few of their performances in the past and they are always a hit. But we may have a new favorite, as we just saw their new winter show – Cinderella. The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati’s Cinderella is a fun remix on a favorite classic that everyone in the family will enjoy!
My daughter is in the heart of the “princess stage” right now, so when I heard that our favorite Children’s Theatre was going to do their version of Cinderella, I knew we had to go. She donned her well-loved Cinderella dress, and my son put on a smile and we headed to the Taft Theatre for a matinee performance.
One of the many reasons I love The Children’s Theatre is that it is completely geared toward young guests. The performances are only about an hour long, with no intermission, and they are always so well done with vibrant characters, detailed sets, and creative costuming. The acting and singing is incredible, as well! Cinderella was no exception and we were, once again, very impressed.
This performance is done in a holiday panto style, which makes it a little different than the fairy tale you’re used to. I had prepared my kids, telling them it would be a different than the movies they know, and they were immediately engaged and entertained. This hilarious rendition includes modern music, local references, cross-dressing step-sisters (who steal the show), and a few twists on the story that will bring a smile to your face. There is also audience participation, which really kept my little ones on their toes.
This particular performance by The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati is absolutely perfect for the entire family. Young children will love the story and characters, and older kids and adults will definitely be entertained by the music and modern twist. Tickets to Cinderella, or any of the upcoming shows, would make a great gift this season. Keep the talented and innovative Children’s Theatre in mind all year long for gifts, a special outing and plenty of quality family fun!
