Do you have a budding actor in your house? A child with a flair for the dramatic? Or just a kiddo who enjoys the arts? Register them for TCT Academy!
The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati’s TCT Academy offers group classes and private lessons for ages 3-18 at its beautiful Red Bank Road facility. Registration is now open for the spring session, which is TCT Academy’s most popular one of the year.
There are a variety of classes from which to choose, including beginning drama, creative movement, ballet, tap and more! Classes are available for various ages and skill levels — no prior experience is needed for many of the offerings (look for an “E” beside the class name; this means it’s an Exposure class; these classes are meant to expose beginners to a variety of subjects). If you think your child is too young for classes at TCT Academy, think again! Creative Toddling classes start at age two.
Last fall, I enrolled my 8-year-old in TCT Academy’s Drama I, a beginner-level survey in drama. It was Julian’s first experience with TCT Academy, and will definitely not be our last.
The class meet weekly on Saturday mornings, and was a fun intro to the stage. Billed as a fun way to hone and develop acting technique, this class provided Julian with a solid foundation in all things drama. Through a variety of exercises and assignments, students in Drama I ultimately improved their skills in teamwork, focus, memorization, observation, listening and imagination.
As with all TCT experiences, Drama I was about so much more than acting. Students were encouraged to engage their minds, bodies and voices, leaving their inhibitions at the door.
At nearly 9, the forces of third grade hegemony have threatened Julian’s natural confidence and unabashed creativity. So having a safe space where he can be bold and creative, among like-minded peers, is everything. Drama I provided a weekly reprieve for Julian, where he could be free to express himself. At the end of the day, TCT Academy is about building confidence.
As a parent, I’m always striving for ways to build up my kids, and TCT Academy is all about working with kids and letting them be creative.
TCT Academy’s Spring Session starts Feb. 9 and runs through May – and it’s the most popular session of the year! There are a variety of 7- and 15-week courses from which to choose. (Classes are divided by age group, and your child must be within the age parameters on the first day of class.)
