Santa Claus: The Musical is a delightful holiday treat!

There are certain events here in Cincinnati that I look forward to all year, those that have also become a treasured tradition for my family. As the holidays approach, we always anxiously await our visit to the Taft Theatre and a performance by The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati. Now of course you can catch a performance many times throughout the year, but there’s something extra special about attending a show in the festive month of December. This year, we were in for a real treat, as The Children’s Theatre presents Santa Claus: The Musical.

Santa Claus: The Musical is a delightful holiday treat that is sure to put you in the spirit of the season. Running Dec. 14-16 at the Taft Theatre, this show is a must for Cincinnati theatre lovers!

I have to admit, there was quite a bit of hype leading up to this particular performance, thanks to the lead role being played by favorite Cincinnati TV personality, Bob Herzog. Now I’m a fan of Bob’s (west side, best side), and I’m a huge fan of The Children’s Theatre, so I went in with big expectations. Just as I thought, everything about it was incredible and we were all laughing, toe tapping and clapping throughout the entire show.

Santa Claus: The Musical begins with an announcement from Santa that after 1,000 faithful years of service, he’s decided to retire. He chooses an unlikely candidate named Nick to fill his shoes, and along with Nick’s daughter, Mrs. Claus, and some playful elves, the hilarious story unfolds. The performance is filled with catchy music, entertaining dancing, colorful characters, and plenty of heart that will keep all ages engaged.

I highly recommend taking even your toddlers to see a performance from The Children’s Theatre, as the auditorium is filled with families of all ages. Since we began taking our children when they were about two years old (grab a provided booster seat and snacks), they are now seasoned theatregoers and only get a little antsy toward the end. The show is about an hour long with no intermission, so combine that with the lively performance, and it’s the perfect way to introduce young children to the art of theatre!

I’m sure we’ll catch a few more performances from The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati before next December, but I know I’ll be especially looking forward to continuing this tradition again in 2019. Considering The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati has been entertaining our community for almost a century, it’s time to make this longstanding Cincinnati tradition a part of your own family memories.

The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati’s Santa Claus: The Musical continues its public performances at the Taft Theatre this weekend with shows at 7:30 pm on Friday, December 14th, and then 2 pm and 5 pm on both the 15th and 16th. You can purchase tickets online here. This particular musical is not one to miss, but also keep in mind the upcoming performances of Disney’s The Jungle Book Kids in February, and Sleeping Beauty in April and May. Tickets to any of these would make great gifts this season!
