Raising a Reader

Now that summer is ALMOST here, you’ll want your kids to have fun and relaxing things lined up, including time to read. This article from Chronicle Books has some great suggestions on how to do that. Some tips include making reading a routine, such as at bed time, but also having books all over your house so that they are always accessible to inspire reading any time of the day. In addition, going to the library and last but not least, letting your kids see you reading. Studies confirm that the number of books parents have in the home is correlated to the level of education their children will attain.

I’d also mention that reading is something you can do anywhere, and doesn’t require plugging in to recharge or finding wifi. So keep a few books in the car for a day of errands, a picnic, a road trip or a vacation.

Time to get reading!
