There are lots of great indoor playgrounds in Cincinnati, but only a few are geared towards little kids. I’m talking little kids: crawling babies, learning-to-walk toddlers and wild preschoolers. Going to an indoor playground with younger kids can be challenging, and it’s no fun for parents to have to constantly scoop-and-move their tots out of the big kids’ paths.
Happily, Lily PadPlay opened in January and fills the need for a little-kid friendly indoor playground in Cincinnati.
Located on Madison Road in Downtown O’Bryonville, LilyPad Play is a few doors down from the BonBonerie and is about as adorable as you can imagine. The sign is bright green; the space is sunny and light, with natural-colored play structures and lots of soft, inviting spaces. In terms of aesthetics, LilyPad Play may be the most beautiful indoor playground I’ve ever been to: it’s a playroom straight from a Pinterest page.
But LilyPad isn’t just a pretty space – it’s also an extremely fun place to play. And when we visited, there was lots of playing going on. LilyPad Play is aimed toward kids 6 and under, and the space is truly great for that diverse age range. I took my wild preschooler and busy baby, and there was a lot for each of them to do individually (and also several activities they could do together).
My just-turned-one-year-old baby was a big fan of the soft gym areas, bug scooters, train table and grocery store area.
My 4.5-year-old preschooler eagerly climbed the rock wall and play structure (which gets major preschooler points for having a fire pole), and loved the puzzles and magnetic tiles.
In addition to a fantastic play area, LilyPad also offers a variety of classes and special events. From art activities and story times, to kids yoga, Zumbini and cooking classes, there’s always something going on at LilyPad. All activities are reasonably priced and can be purchased à la carte — and registration is easy: simply follow the link on LilyPad’s Online Calendar.
LilyPad offers open play six days a week (they’re closed on Mondays), with a single visit costing $8/child ages 1 and up. They offer sibling discounts and bundled play passes, plus unlimited monthly membership options.
Being stuck inside with young kids is the worst. And with spring approaching, the rainy days might just drive every Cincinnati Parent crazy! LilyPad Play is a wonderful indoor option where kids can roam, play and explore — and then come home and (hopefully) take a nap. This hidden gem is a much-needed addition to Cincinnati that’s absolutely worth checking out this spring.
LilyPad Play is located at 2008 Madison Road in Cincinnati, 45208.
