Hidden Gem: Gorman Heritage Farm

I have a black thumb, but deep appreciation for the outdoors. I love being outdoors and want my kids to love being outdoors, too. As vegetarians, it’s also really important that my kids understand how their food is grown. Here in Cincinnati, there is a place where kids can learn all about nature and plants in an accessible and fun way: Gorman Heritage Farm.

Located in Evendale, Gorman Heritage Farm is a real, working farm where kids can get hands-on lessons in all things nature.

This hidden gem is beautiful and inspirational, and definitely worth a visit with your family this summer.

Gorman Heritage Farm is perhaps best-known for its children’s programs – and with good reason. The staff and programs at this farm are so kind and wonderful. The setting is perfectly kid friendly, with a variety of sweet animals to visit, gardens to interact with and trails to amble up. There is a quaint indoor space for children’s story times and activities, and a picturesque outdoor garden that’s just the right size for kids.

On Easter weekend, we attended the Kid’s Spring Fun Day event, and it was absolutely delightful. For us, Easter is about spring and rebirth (not fake grass and anthropomorphic bunnies), and it was wonderful to attend a program aimed at teaching kids about the more natural aspects of this spring holiday. My kids got to hear a gardening-themed story time with local author Gene Powell, plant their own tomato plants, hold newly hatched chicks and then pet two of the farm bunnies. Along the way, they learned about the difference between dirt and soil, how to care for chicks and why bunnies are just the coolest animals.

Afterwards, we were invited to wander the farm grounds. We could have easily spent all day exploring, and can’t wait to return again this summer. Gorman Heritage Farm is one of Cincinnati’s best hidden gems, and it’s a wonderful place to slow down, enjoy nature and get a little dirty with your kids!

Gorman Heritage Farm is open daily, and hosts a variety of fun children’s programs and camps throughout the summer. Stay up-to-date on upcoming programs on their Facebook page, and find more information on farm hours and admission here.
