Explore fascinating places that reflect Ohio’s rich heritage. All Ohio Open Doors events are free.
Heritage Village Museum and Educational Center will participate in Ohio Open Doors by hosting an Open House on Sept. 16, 2018. The Open House is a free event and an opportunity for the public to visit the Village and learn more about our programs.
Experience a vintage base ball match played by the 1869 rules when the Cincinnati Buckeyes take on the Losantiville Black Stockings at 1:00 p.m. Explore the Village with tours of select buildings by interpreters in historical clothing and learn about life in the 19th century. Watch a cabinet making a demonstration. Play croquet on the green. Experience autumn in the Village while enjoying a snack of apples dipped in caramel.
Heritage Village Museum is located inside Sharon Woods Park, behind Sharon Center at 11450 Lebanon Rd. Sharonville, Ohio 45241. A Great Parks parking permit may be required.
About Heritage Village Museum and Educational Center
Heritage Village Museum and Educational Center is operated by Historic Southwest Ohio (HSO), a private, non-profit organization that owns and operates the buildings and collections of Heritage Village Museum and Educational Center. Heritage Village Museum and Educational Center is a picturesque gathering of 13 authentic historical buildings that represent various aspects of family life during the 1800s. These buildings include historic homes, a train station, a doctor’s office, a general store and a church.
About Ohio Open Doors
The Ohio History Connection created Ohio Open Doors in 2016 to promote and inspire pride in Ohio’s heritage and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act.
Signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson on Oct. 15, 1966, the Act has proven instrumental in transforming the face of communities from coast to coast, establishing the legal framework and incentives to preserve historic buildings, landscapes and archaeological sites. It drives economic revitalization by attracting investment, supporting small business, stabilizing neighborhoods and creating jobs.
The Ohio History Connection’s State Historic Preservation Office administers the National Historic Preservation Act in Ohio. Many of the landmarks featured in Ohio Open Doors events are in the National Register of Historic Places, which the National Historic Preservation Act created.
