GymQuest Sports Academy

This past August you could find me glued to the TV, watching Olympic gymnastics. After that, it was So You Think You Can Dance that was filling up my DVR. And now… I’ve been known to yell at the TV, cheering on the American Ninja Warriors! These activities, and the people who do them, have always fascinated me and they were brought to life the other day when I took my kids to visit GymQuest Sports Academy in Beavercreek.

I warned Mr. Ritchie – the Dance Manager, Coach and Instructor – that we would be there during nap time and I wasn’t quite sure how my kids would act. Well, I may just let him handle nap time from now on, because he was wonderful with my 3 year old and 2 year old. He gave us a tour of the impressive facility (it’s MUCH bigger than it looks from the outside!), and told us all about the various classes and sports they offer. cp-gymquest-4It was clear from the beginning that he is very passionate about what he does and that kids have a great time there.

GymQuest offers activities for toddlers through adults, and they have just about anything you can imagine. It’s one of the few places I know of that offers a wide range of dance classes – ballet, hip-hop and breakdance are a few – and they want everyone to participate and have fun. We were lucky enough to observe the Special Needs Dance Class, and it was very apparent that these kids were so excited to have an experience tailored to them. A parent even shared that she drove thirty minutes multiple times a week for this class, because classes like this are rare and it was her daughter’s favorite time of the week.

My kids particularly loved the open gym area and we were all amazed by the Parkour/Ninja Zone. The gym provides a safe place for kids to learn and experiment in these sports. The large trampoline and rope swing produced a lot of smiles and it took all of my effort not to swan dive into the foam pit! I let my son try it out instead. Aside from classes, they do offer an open gym time on Friday afternoons and other special events that you can learn about here.

I love when my kids are active (hello better sleep!), but it’s even better when it’s in an environment that provides safety while still encouraging them to try new things. GymQuest is a family – oriented facility, with such a wide range of options, everyone is sure to find something that gets them moving. Where else can you take an adult hip-hop class while your kids learn how to do a cartwheel?!

You can find even more information and a full class schedule on the GymQuest website. It’s a great place to check out as we head into colder weather and everyone will be looking to dance, bounce, run, and burn off steam.

A native Cincinnatian, Andrea has experienced life in all four corners of this city. After growing up on the west side, she headed north to attend Miami University, then moved east to Hyde Park and now lives in Northern Kentucky with her family.

When she’s not playing trains and doing the “hot dog dance” as a stay-at-home mom to her two toddlers, Andrea is busy writing for Cincinnati publications and sites. With a newfound passion for fitness and overall health, she spends a lot of time at her family gym and loves to play outside.

Andrea worked in education for several years and has a special love for children’s literature. She loves showing her children all our city has to offer and enjoys sharing her finds with other parents. Her favorite spots include the Cincinnati Zoo (although she steers clear of the bird house), her local library and any playground.
