Fashion Camps and Classes at Mary Helen Studio

Is your child interested in drawing, designing and sewing fashions? Or perhaps interested in fashion merchandising and marketing? Your fashionista can learn these skills (and possibly develop a future career path) at fashion camps and classes at Mary Helen StudioThis is the place where inspiration turns into reality.  Kids of all ages will explore the fashion industry and establish lifelong skills and confidence. Plus, Mary Helen Studios also offers adult sewing classes throughout the year.

My daughter (a fashion lover) wanted to go to summer camp. Knowing she is not a fan of the great outdoors or sports that do not involve water, I found Mary Helen Sewing Camp. This week-long camp is offered to kids of all ages and skill levels; and teaches future fashion designers the essentials of designing and sewing their own clothes. The first day of camp, with snack in hand (please bring a snack and bottled water each day), my daughter arrived at the O’Bryonville location ready to begin her career. Note: Mary Helen Studio provides all materials needed for camp including sewing machines for campers to use for the week.

Each camper received a tote with their own design booklet. This booklet was used to create an inspiration board and to sketch their own designs. Those inspirations/designs helped the campers decide which piece of clothing they would sew. Then the creation begins by picking out the materials, cutting out the patterns and sewing together the final garment.

Sewing camp concluded with the garment reveal fashion show. Family and friends gathered on the roof-top deck as the campers walked the runway. Each camper presented to the group their inspiration, designs and their completed garment. I was very impressed with everyone’s public speaking and sewing. Besides the art of fashion, this camp truly teaches your child career skills in teamwork, speech-making and time management.

My daughter can’t wait to participate in Creative Business Camp next summer. Campers will learn about designing products, finding materials, setting prices, branding, marketing and selling. Each camper will have the opportunity to design a fashion accessory and brand throughout the week. On the last day of camp, campers will reveal their final products and host a camp pop-up shop at the Mary Helen Boutique to feature their designs!

Besides summer camps, Mary Helen also offers sewing classes throughout the year … choose from seasonal project classes to Build-Your-Own sewing classes (private or group). And you can celebrate your fashionista’s next birthday at Mary Helen Studio by creating fashion-forward pieces then celebrating with dessert. For a unique camp or class experience, fashionistas of all ages will love to learn the art of sewing at Mary Helen Studio.  For more information about classes, camps and special events, please visit Mary Helen Studio.
