Come Float Your Boat

Everyone knows Cincinnati is home to Paddlefest, the country’s largest outdoor paddling event, but did you know that Ohio also hosts the country’s only cardboard boat regatta? On August 15, head up the Ohio River to New Richmond (located 10 miles east of Coney Island) for the annual Cardboard Boat Regatta. You’ll see an impressive array of paper-built boats from cardboard canoes and cardboard steamboats to a cardboard water ambulance and floating cardboard teacup!

Touch a Truck!

For little (and big!) kids, it doesn’t get better than Touch a Truck. Mark your calendar for Thursday, August 6 from 9–11 am when Montgomery’s Weller Park hosts their annual Touch a Truck event. There will be a variety of vehicles for kids to explore, including a fire engine, ambulance, dump truck, tractors, police cruisers and military Humvees.

Game…Set…Match!

If you’re a tennis fan, then The Western & Southern Open is a must-attend attraction! Every year, this sporting event brings record crowds to the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason. Past tournaments have featured tennis stars such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Venus and Serena Williams. This year’s event takes place August 15-23 with tickets available for single matches or the entire tournament.

Trains, Thomas and EnterTRAINment

Bring your train-loving tot to the “Everything Thomas” event at EnterTRAINment Junction for some locomotive fun.  Purchase a “Do-It-All Ticket” and gain entry to all things Thomas, including several Thomas train layouts, Thomas videos, a Thomas scavenger hunt, Thomas coloring and crafts and an indoor train ride. This event runs daily from August 1 – September 13.

Get Yourself Down to the County Fair

August 5-9 come celebrate the Hamilton County Fair’s 160th anniversary! With livestock demonstrations, car shows, competitions, food and rides, there’s something for everyone at the Fair. Admission is just $5, with an additional $5 fee for parking. Directions and a full schedule of events can be found online.

See Where Science and Sports Meet

Throwing a 104 mph fastball or running a blazing 100-meter dash may seem like superhuman feats, but the Science of Sports Exhibit at the Cincinnati Museum Center proves they’re just ordinary acts of extraordinary science. Put your body to the test in a variety of activities in this interactive exhibit. Test your agility walking across a balance beam, practice your fast ball on the pitching mound or check your speed on the

race track. This exciting exhibit runs through September 7.

Start Your Engines Soap Boxes!

Register now for the eighth annual St. Bernard Grand Prix, held this year on August 22 at St. Bernard-Elmwood Place High School. Participants can build or rent their own car, which they’ll then race down a 645′ course. Proceeds from the race benefit the Cincinnati Soap Box Derby, a youth-development organization for kids ages 7 through 17.
