Cincinnati Choo Choo at Krohn Conservatory

There are so many wonderful holiday traditions in Cincinnati, making this time of year festive and fun for all ages. One of our most treasured traditions this season is to visit Krohn Conservatory for their beautiful holiday show. This year it’s called Cincinnati Choo Choo and it’s better than ever! My two young children love the “flower show,” as they call it and this one is definitely their favorite! We were lucky enough to check it out and trust us; you will be definitely be “on board” with this year’s enchanting display.

The main attraction of Cincinnati Choo Choo at Krohn Conservatory is the eye-catching display in the showroom. If you’ve never been before, then you have never seen something quite like it. The bright space is filled with vibrant poinsettias and other favorite holiday plants. But that is just the beginning. Applied Imagination has worked their magic and put together their famous train tracks that envelope the room, as well as recreations of some of the most recognizable buildings in Cincinnati. You’ll see Union Terminal, the former incline, Queen City Square and the P&G Towers, and even Krohn Conservatory, itself. If you love Cincinnati’s architecture, then you’ll love seeing it brought to life in this creative way.

The trains that chug throughout the room are always a highlight and add so much nostalgic charm. If you have a little one who loves Thomas the Train, you’ll find him and his friend Percy happily riding the rails. Another feature that is perfect for little ones is the “Elfie Hide-N-Seek.” Find one of the many pixie elves hidden throughout Krohn, snap an “Elfie Selfie” and then share it on social media with the hashtag #KrohnElfieSelfie. You’ll be entered for the chance to win a great prize! Also, on the side of Krohn that is opposite the Cincinnati Choo Choo Show, play along with “Who Lives Here?” Find whimsical poems hidden in the foliage and use their clues to guess who lives in the delightful homes that now adorn the garden. And don’t miss out on the adjoining room that has an antique Christmas town display! Aside from the trains, this was my children’s favorite part!

Cincinnati Choo Choo is like a love letter to the city of Cincinnati. As you walk into the space, you’re greeted with such a beautiful scene, and our city is the star of the show. New this year, you can also see large creations from Applied Imagination that look as if they took animals from Carol Ann’s Carousel and perfectly placed them in the display. The entire room is just cheerful and festive.

Cincinnati Choo Choo at Krohn Conservatory runs November 18th – January 7th and is open daily 10 am to 5 pm. They also offer a variety of special events during the show, so make sure to visit their website, linked below, for all of the details! A native Cincinnatian, Andrea has experienced life in all four corners of this city. After growing up on the west side, she headed north to attend Miami University, then moved east to Hyde Park and now lives in Northern Kentucky with her family.

When she’s not playing trains and doing the “hot dog dance” as a stay-at-home mom to her two toddlers, Andrea is busy writing for Cincinnati (and, ahem, Kentucky!) publications and brainstorming ideas for her next children’s book! With a newfound passion for fitness and overall health, she spends a lot of time at her family gym and loves to play outside.

Andrea worked in education for several years and has a special love for children’s literature. She loves showing her children all our city has to offer and enjoys sharing her finds with other parents. Her favorite spots include the Cincinnati Zoo (although she steers clear of the bird house), her local library and any playground.
