Celebrate National Donut Day in Cincy!

donutdayjune3 textMark your calendars! This Friday happens to be one of our favorite holidays: National Donut Day!

Celebrate National Donut Day in Cincy this Friday on Fountain Square.

Over 1,500 free donuts will be shared on Fountain Square this Friday, June 3 at 12 p.m. — all to benefit the mission and programs of The Salvation Army.

Festivities start at noon and include donut-themed games, contests, local celebrities and free craft donuts from participating local bakeries. Donuts will be distributed by local bakeries and Greater Cincinnati Retail Bakers Association (GCRBA) members, with sponsorships and proceeds of over $5,000 benefiting The Salvation Army’s work in the local community.

Donut Day was established by The Salvation Army in 1938 to honor The Salvation Army’s “Donut Lassies,” who served the treats to soldiers during World War I. The “Donut Lassies” are often credited with popularizing the Donut in the United States when the troops returned home from war.

Since 2010, the GCRBA has been sponsoring this popular event. 2016 Participating bakeries include:

  • Bakery Hill at the Midwest Culinary Institute (Cincinnati State),
  • Bonnie Lynn Bakery,
  • Bonomini Bakery,
  • Busken Bakery,
  • Graeter’s Fine Pastries,
  • Harrison Home Bakery,
  • Holtman’s Donut Shop,
  • Jansen’s Sweet Sinsations,
  • Jupiter Coffee and Donuts,
  • Marcella’s Donuts & Bakery,
