School is almost back in session, but there are still so many outdoor activities left to do with the whole family. The next item on your list should be Winton Woods watersports. With the gorgeous Winton Lake as your playground, the boathouse at Winton Woods Harbor rents out row, pedal, motor and pontoon boats, as well as stand-up paddleboards, kayaks and canoes. Be the captain of your ship and enjoy an adventure that your entire crew is sure to love!
Winton Woods Park on a Saturday morning is alive with activity. Park guests are walking the lake trail and children are splashing on the wet playground. But my fleet of sailors was ready to explore the 156-acre Winton Lake on a gorgeous August morning.
We were greeted by friendly staff at the boathouse who taught us safety first — and the #1 rule: life vests! After the kids and adults were fitted, it was time for canoes and kayaks. Each canoe fits 3 people: one adult and two children. The kayaks held two people: one adult and one child. (An adult must be on each vessel.) The staff helped everyone into the boats and it was time to set sail. The two dads took the kiddos around the lake; and from the harbor I could hear tons of laugher. A great time was had by all but we were not done yet.
Then it was time for pedal boating. Now I joined in the fun, too! Each pedal boat holds four people and an adult must be present. This time we pedaled (morning cardio) around the lake while meeting friendly ducks, looking for fish, singing lots of songs and just being silly. We could have spent hours on the lake, but every adventure must come to an end.
We had such a good time enjoying a few of the Winton Harbor’s watersports. If you plan to bring your family to the lake, please make sure to bring: sunscreen, water shoes, towels, hats, sunglasses, water bottles and a water proof jacket (for those crisp, early fall mornings!).
This time of year is perfect for enjoying Winton Woods watersports. It’s warm but not hot, and you can enjoy the breathtaking views of Winton Woods from the water. Winton Harbor is located on 10245 Winton Rd. (If watersports are not your cup of tea, the boathouse also offers bike rentals and a large selection of fishing gear to enjoy a day around the lake!) For more information on hours, rental fees and more please contact Great Parks of Hamilton County.
