The Duke Energy Children’s Museum is open!

Cincinnati Parents, rejoice! After several long months, the Duke Energy Children’s Museum is open!

As you can recall, the children’s museum was suddenly and unexpectedly closed in November due to construction needs. But that’s now a distant memory, as the Children’s Museum reopened on May 4th and is back and better than ever!

Here’s what you can expect:

Sensory-Friendly Play in Little Sprouts

In the little sprouts farm area, you’ll find new sensory activities and all new flooring.

A whole new Kroger

It’s 2018 – and the Kroger store inside Kids Town reflect that! Little shoppers can utilize ClickList scanning technology, and use new aprons and bags.

A lighter, brighter museum

You know how a fresh coat of paint can change everything? Well, it certainly has in the Children’s Museum. The walls have all been freshly painted, and the result is dramatic: it’s a lot lighter and brighter down there! Bold colors accent the animals’ aquariums near The Woods, and a cloud mural provides a beautiful background to the Water Works.

New animals

In the animal spot, there are more animals. The habitats house all kinds of fish, reptiles and bugs for kids to take in!

Automated parking

There’s an automated machine where you get a ticket or slide your membership card to get in. But don’t worry – an attendant is also there in the event of a technology malfunction!

The Woods gets a new slide

The Woods has a new slide, which Harvey very much enjoyed. There’s also new lighting, which makes the Woods seem more shaded and woods-like. (Think of the way the sunlight filters through the trees during the summer… that’s what it feels like!)

Continued construction

While the Children’s Museum and main exhibit area in the basement are both fully up and running, the rotunda and other museums at Union Terminal are expected to reopen in November.

Kids at Work has more work for kids

His favorite exhibit, Kids at Work, has a brand-new look: there’s a fun area with oversized wooden building planks and connectors, a wide open space for the giant blue foam blocks, and an inspiring mural of downtown Cincinnati under construction. Of course, the huge digger never disappoints. And kids can now don Turner vests in honor of all the construction company’s hard work on the restoration.

Lots of happy kids

The museum was crazy last week — in a good way! (The Energy Zone was… high energy!) After several months of radio silence (well, minus the construction), sounds of yelling, squealing, happy kids have filled the Children’s Museum once again.

The Children’s Museum truly has it all: STEAM activities, imaginative and sensory-friendly play, train tables, animals, an indoor playground, an area just for babies and toddlers — you name it! I’m thrilled this beloved favorite is back and better than ever – it will make for a fun and stimulating afternoon during those endless days of summer.

And stay tuned: The Museum’s newest exhibit, Mission Aerospace, opens May 25th and will be another reason to visit: this high-flying exhibit features over a dozen experiments, puzzles and activities sure to inspire your kids to reach for the stars!
