It’s hard to believe, but this weekend is July 4th! If you don’t have plans, make plans to head to Red, White & Blue Ash 4th of July Celebration at Summit Park. If you do have plans — cancel them, because it promises to be one fun 4th of July party (ok — don’t really cancel the family barbecue… but do make plans to visit Summit Park sometime soon!)
If you’ve never been to Summit Park before, you’re missing out!
It’s our favorite park — and it’s not even finished.
I’m a little biased, I’ll admit. Summit Park is five minutes away from me, so I can take the kids to it at 7:30 am for a quick run-around before Harvey’s nap. It’s got that squishy, child-friendly ground, which is a huge plus for this mom of three small, active, accident-prone kids.
The playground itself is state-of-the-art. There’s a giant ropes course. There are massive slides and spin-ny stools and a huge see saw and a hill made out of AstroTurf that kids bring cardboard to slide down on.
It’s awesome.
In the center of Summit is a the “great lawn,” a huge field with porch-style swings on each side. This is where the annual Red, White and Blue Ash July 4th celebration will take place. It’s also a super cool spot to fly a kite.
There’s a walking trail surrounding Summit park, and right now construction is underway for an observation tower that you’ll be able to see everything from (bonus: there are tons of construction trucks doing their things all the time, which is awesome for truck-loving kids!). Down the line, there will be a skating rink, bike trail and community center at Summit!
There’s a farmers market every Wednesday through October 28 from 3:30-7! (PS: if you’re into farmers markets, we put together a comprehensive guide so you can hit up all the local markets this summer!). There are free weekly fitness classes all summer long. Touch-a-Truck was hosted here during National Public Works Week.
This park has it all — and I’m excited to see how it transforms in years to come! But most importantly, it’s a really fun place to take my kids right now, for an afternoon of climbing and sliding and running around.
Red, White & Blue Ash 4th of July Celebration is Cincinnati’s largest Independence Day event, offering free national entertainment, food, drink, a family fun area and the “Biggest & Best 4th of July Fireworks in the Tri-State!” With typical crowds reaching over 100,000 spectators during this one-day event, it is a favorite for locals and visitors alike!Â
