Pumpkins, Squash and Gourds, Oh my!

Remember growing up and being excited to go to a local store or farm stand to buy your annual orange pumpkin? Now that I’m a kid in a grown up’s body, I still enjoy the fall tradition, but with an eye for the unexpected. With each passing year, it seems that my local farm stand has more and more lovely, unusual and strange options to choose from when shopping for pumpkins, squash and gourds. I’m easy to spot… the lady with a giant wagon FULL of really weird-looking things! (I don’t care for the mall, so this is my version of shopping therapy!) It doesn’t matter that these things will seem like they’re going to live forever, and that I eventually, sadly, toss them into the woods for the wildlife to munch on, since it’s December and pumpkins don’t match up too well with Christmas decorations!

If you’re still in the orange pumpkin phase of your fall shopping, you need to get out to a farm stand and see what they have. My local haunt:
