Petals & Pedals at Krohn Conservatory

In Cincinnati, you can mark the seasons by the shows at Krohn Conservatory. Spring means the beloved butterfly show; the winter mean Krohn’s holiday train show. However, in between these two show stoppers are several smaller shows that are just as special. This summer’s Petals & Pedals at Krohn Conservatory exemplifies what this Cincinnati institution does best, featuring bright, beautiful blooms, colorfully painted bicycles and a perfect dose of wonder and whimsy.

Each and every seasonal show at Krohn has a theme; this summer’s show features petals (flowers) and pedals (bicycles) in every color of the rainbow. There are unique sculptures made from bicycle tires, painted tricycles and informative diagrams of these human-powered vehicles. (In fact, ride your bike up to Krohn and you’ll get $1 off admission!)

In terms of petals, Krohn has really outdone itself with this show. You’ll find brillant flowers of every shape and size, and the outdoor landscaping is just as much of an attraction as what’s inside. My kids were delighted to see flowers in each of their favorite colors: red, pink, purple and blue — Krohn has them all. This space truly comes alive with vivid colors; and with the blooming fruit trees towering overhead, you’re completely surrounded by beautiful colors and pleasing smells at Krohn’s summer show.

After three months dedicated to the butterflies, Krohn’s summer show is about a month shorter, running until August 27. You’ll want to commit that date to memory, as Krohn is bidding farewell to summer with an end-of-show bash that families will love. Return To Eden: A Monarch Festival happens Sunday, August 27th from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and will be an end-of-summer celebration of, among other things, the great migratory journey of the Monarch butterflies as they pass through Cincinnati on their way to Mexico. Stay tuned for more details on this family-friendly event!

For fashion-forward Cincy parents, mark your calendars for Cincinnati Fashion Night on July 28th. It’s presented by Cincy Chic and is a fashion show, cocktail party and shopping boutique all rolled into one fantastic evening. General Admission tickets are $20, and all proceeds benefit The Friends of Krohn. This would make a fantastic girls night!

The seasonal shows at Krohn Conservatory have become a tradition in my house; in the past 5 years, my kids and I have attended most of them. Krohn’s shows mark the passing of the seasons, and we always look forward to seeing what’s next. Petals & Pedals: Take A Walk on the Floral Side is a joyful celebration of all things summer that’s a fun outing for families. It’s also a beautiful reminder that life is happening all around us – something we should all take a minute to stop and appreciate.

Petals & Pedals: Take A Walk on the Floral Side runs Tuesdays-Sundays through Aug. 27 at Krohn Conservatory. Admission is $4/adults and $2/kids 5-17 (kids under 5 are free). Get $1 off by riding your bike to Krohn (or download a $1 coupon here!).
