Lowe’s Build & Grow Clinics

I can’t hang a picture or tighten a hinge without my kids getting out their tools and begging to “help.” (If only they showed the same passion when asked to pick up their toys…) So when I heard about Lowe’s Build & Grow Clinics, my first thought was, sign us up!

Lowe’s Build and Grow Clinics are free classes for kids where they can build a different project every month. At a Lowe’s Build and Grow Clinic, your child will receive a free apron, goggles and project kit, and get to complete their very own, DIY project taught by a special instructor.

My older two were very excited to get their goggles, aprons and tools, and immediately started making silly, I’m-so-happy-I-can-hardly-stand-it faces. The apron not only keeps your child clean (and makes them feel very cool!), it also functions as a Scouts-type vest where kids can show off their badges. Your kid will get an iron-on badge after completing each workshop; some of the kids in our class had an impressive amount of badges!

Projects range from games to toys to superheroes. We got to make superheroes. Yep — my superhero-obsessed, construction savvy kids got to build their very own, light-up Iron Man statues.

The project was broken down into steps, which my kids were able to follow with minimal assistance (I was very impressed by how much they did on their own!). They got their own, real-yet-kid-sized, tools to use, and learned simple skills like hammering and following step-by-step instructions. (The instructions were large, colorful and easy to read. If only all instruction manuals were so user-friendly!)

start to finish

My two had their own large table, with lots of room to spread out and work without being all over each other. The instructor was super friendly and helpful, and she did a great job explaining everything. It was definitely nice to have someone else coordinating craft time!

In general, the busier my kids are, the better they behave. And guess what? They were A+ students during class! We’ll definitely be back to earn more badges for their aprons.
