A long time ago, in a kingdom six hours away, I learned of the legend of Camelot. As a child, my first lesson of King Arthur, his magical sword, Excalibur, and Merlin came from Disney’s The Sword In The Stone. As I matured, more books were read about this tale that included the Knights of the Round Table, Sir Lancelot and Guinevere. And, I remember spending a few nights with my love watching Mighty Python’s Search of the Holy Grail (PSA: hilarious, but please be 18 and over) and First Knight (Sean Connery and Richard Gere in one movie… swoon). So, this Valentine’s Day Weekend, take your beloveds to experience King Arthur’s Camelot on stage at the Aronoff Center.
Performing from Friday, February 10th to Sunday, February 12th, the Cincinnati Ballet is proud to revive this modern ballet with original and breathtaking choreography by Victoria Morgan. King Arthur’s Camelot transports the audience into a mystical realm of knights and wizards. Then watch as King Arthur protects his kingdom and his heart from the evil sorcerer Mordred. This visually stunning and drama-filled ballet encompasses exquisite set design, beautiful costumes, puppets, projections and jousting. With amazing visual effects, action and romance, this performance has something for everyone making this a perfect Valentine’s date to two or the entire family.
Thursday evening, my family and I saw this fantastic production. As the curtains rose, we became immersed in Camelot. The legend was brought to life by the elegant and graceful dancers accompanied by a romantic musical score. My daughter was on the edge of her seat the entire performance. She was entranced by the ordinate costumes; and she was in awe as the knights rode puppet/marionette horses while jousting (you must see for yourself).
My husband (a ballet skeptic) and I really enjoyed the entire ballet. A fan of the Camelot tale, his favorite parts included sword fighting, exciting visual effects and the magical wizards. I was captivated by the love triangle of King Arthur, Guinevere and Sir Lancelot (I feel so bad for Guinevere, NOT!). It is one of my favorite love stories; and I could feel the emotion in the dancing and music.
Cincinnati Ballet’s King Arthur’s Camelot is a timeless romance that’s perfect for your Valentine’s date night; or for a fantastic family night out.
