And I’m okay with that!
Located just a few shops down Madison Rd. from the bookstore, King Arthur’s is the toy-ying to Blue Manatee’s book-yang. This beloved toy store has been Oakley Square’s main attraction for over 30 years — and it’s not hard to see why.
King Arthur’s Court stocks the best selections of trains, Legos, Playmobile, arts and crafts supplies, dollhouses, classic toys, board games, seasonal toys — and even hard-to-find European brands (like the Bruder trucks Julian is obsessed with). The staff is so friendly and helpful — always happy to assist you in finding the perfect toy for your child.
King Arthur’s Court is more than a toy store; it’s a place to take a child on a rainy day. It’s a place to explore and get lost in and be inspired by.
There are lots of toys out for kids to play with and try out — it was here that we first learned about WOW Toys, a friction-powered line of vehicles and toys that are child-safe. My kids loved playing with the toys; we now own two (with Santa bringing a few more if the kids behave). Kids are encouraged to play; and this is great because you can see what your child actually likes and wants to play with — before you buy.
As with any local business, the prices are perhaps a little higher than a big-box retailer. However, you’re paying for a level of customer service unheard of in today’s world of impersonal, Internet shopping. And — the store offers lots of promotions and coupons if you sign up for e-newsletters, “like” them on Facebook or become a Kings Klub member (this program is awesome — after Thanksgiving, you’ll get a 10% rebate delivered to your inbox from total purchases made January through September. So, if you spend $500 from January to September, you’ll get $50 back for the holidays!).
So as you’re looking ahead to the holidays, consider a couple of visits to King Arthur’s Court — one with the kids so you can get a sense of what they like; one sans kids on a covert, secret Santa mission!
