April Free Cincinnati Guide

While April is known for its rainy demeanor, the fourth month of the year is also full of so much fun: Easter, the start of spring, Reds (and Kings Island!) Opening Day and perfect park weather! We rounded up 28 of the best activities happening around town in April, all of which happen to be FREE.

Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Young’s Dairy
April 1 at 2 pm at Young’s Dairy
An annual tradition, Young’s boils and dyes over 7,000 eggs for its Easter Egg Hunt. Hunts are divided by age and start at 2 pm for children ages 4 and under; 2:20 pm for ages 5 to 7 and 2:40 pm for ages 8 to 10. Rain or shine. FREE.

Reds Opening Day Parade
April 2 at Findlay Market
Cincinnati will hold the 99th annual Findlay Market Opening Day Parade on Monday, April 2, when your Cincinnati Reds take on the Chicago Cubs that afternoon at 4:10 pm. FREE.

April 2 at Washington Park
Join us in the park for the Findlay Market Opening Day Parade celebration! Features fun activities for kids and Reds fans young and old! FREE.

Nature Stories
April 3 at 11 am and 1 pm at Sharon Woods/Sharon Centre
Parents and children are invited to join us for stories, songs and activities about the natural world. FREE.

Little Tykes
April 4 at 11 am at Winton Woods/Winton Centre
You won’t want to miss our traditional Earth Day Celebration. Help your youngster embrace nature in a big way with others during engaging, earth-friendly activities. Bring your favorite earth friendly idea to share. For ages 3-6. FREE.

Animals Alive
April 5 at 1 pm at Woodland Mound/Seasongood Nature Center
Discover what kinds of animals may live in your own backyard and meet a few up close! FREE.

Agents of Discovery
April 7 from 10 am-3 pm at Sharon Woods/Sharon Centre
Find a new way to combine technology and the outdoors. Download the free Agents of Discovery app to play an interactive scavenger hunt throughout the park. Stop in Sharon Centre if you need help or head out on your own. Either way, end your hunt at Sharon Centre for a special prize! FREE.

National Unicorn Day Party
April 7 from 1-3 pm at the Monfort Heights Branch Library
Celebrate National Unicorn Day a few days early by making a headband and icy unicorn frapps (drinks)! For teens in grades 6-12. Registration Required. FREE.

Family First Saturdays
April 7 from 12-4 pm at the Cincinnati Art Museum
Designed with the whole family in mind! Performances, artist demonstrations, storytelling, scavenger hunts, tours, and hands-on art making activities are just the start of the fun for the whole family. There’s a different theme each month, so be sure to come to every one, and bring your best friends!

Second Sunday Family Showtime: Baila! Kids Latino Dances
April 8 at 2 pm at the Clifton Cultural Arts Center
Prepare to be delighted with a taste of everything our Hispanic heritage has to offer! You will see folkloric dancing, merengue, flamenco, and Sonora bronco rhythms. Presented by Cincinnati Baila! Dance Academy. Tickets are FREE for kids and $5 for adults.

Collaborative Concert with John Morris Russell
April 9 at 7 pm at Indian Hill High School
Experience the combined talent of music students from Mariemont, Madeira and Indian Hill High Schools in this spectacular concert featuring favorite marches written for orchestra and band. Students from all three schools will perform under the baton of Cincinnati Pops Conductor, John Morris Russell. Come celebrate the community with this free evening of music at Indian Hill High School Auditorium, 6865 Drake Road, Cincinnati, OH 45243. FREE.

Unicorns Galore!
April 9 at 4 pm at the Greenhills Branch Library
Celebrate National Unicorn Day by creating a unicorn crown, enjoying a unicorn beverage and unicorn trivia. FREE.

Wiggly Worms!
April 12 at 3 pm at the Oakley Branch Library
Join the Hamilton County Soil & Water Conservation District as we discover the world of worms with the story Tunneling Earthworms; they will learn what they eat, how they survive, and what environment they live in. A worm bin will be brought into the classroom for kids to have a hands-on experience with worms and soil and investigate why the underground world is so important. Ages 5-12. No registration required. FREE.

Honeybees
April 14 at 1:30 pm at Parky’s Farm
The bees are flying and it’s time to do the spring check of the beehives. Drop by anytime this hour to take a look inside the hives and learn about honeybees. Program cancels in inclement weather out of respect for the bees’ health. For ages 7 and up. FREE.

Third Sunday Funday: Wacky Art
April 15 from 1-4 pm at the Taft Museum
Join us for a wacky day this Funday! Solve art puzzles at the Art Cart, and find new and silly ways to look at the Taft’s artworks. Sculpt your own Dr. Seuss-inspired character to take home, and at 2 pm, The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati on Tour will get you in a crazy mood with a performance of Dr. Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat. Stop by the petting zoo at 3 pm and meet a kangaroo from Honey Hill Farm. FREE.

Horse Show
Sun., April 15 from 9 am-12 pm at Winton Woods/Winton Woods Riding Center
Outside riders and Winton Woods Riding Center (WWRC) novice level and above students can compete in the disciplines of Hunt Seat and Western speed events in this all-day event. Spectators are welcome to come and cheer on these hard working equestrians. Free for spectators, $10/class for riders.

The Sun with the Cincinnati Observatory
April 16 at 6:30 pm at the Anderson Branch Library
Join astronomers from the Cincinnati Observatory for an entertaining and informative presentation about the Sun. FREE.

Earth Day Celebration
April 18 at the Blue Ash Recreation Center
Learn to live a more sustainable life and celebrate Planet Earth! Eco-friendly business and organizations from around the region will share expertise and resources at this FREE event!

Party for the Planet
April 19 from 4-8:30 pm at the Cincinnati Zoo (*admission FREE after 5 pm)
Join the Greenest Zoo in America as we celebrate Earth Day during our 9th annual “Party for the Planet”! Businesses and organizations from around the region will be on hand to share their expertise and resources about living more sustainably within our communities. Topics include solar energy, composting, recycling, energy efficiency, green building, rain gardens/barrels, sustainable food, green products, and much more! *Admission to the Zoo is FREE after 5 pm and parking is $10.

Birding 101
April 21 at 1 pm at Woodland Mound/Seasongood Nature Center
To be a “birder” requires little but the appreciation and wonder of observing birds. The tools can be inexpensive and based on a birder’s preference. This base- level birding program will graduate attendees to the ranks of beginning birders. FREE.

Earth Day Tree Planting
April 21 from 9 am-12 pm at Mitchell Memorial Forest/Stone Memorial Shelter
Trees provide us with shade, oxygen and natural habitat. Plus, they sure are pretty to look at! Celebrate Earth Day by helping us replace a split rail fence with a living wall of native trees. All ages welcome. Free; register by 4/18.

Earth Day Scavenger Hunt
April 22 from 12-4 pm at Woodland Mound/Seasongood Nature Center
Every day is Earth Day in the park, but come celebrate the official day with us and learn about ways you can help protect the earth. Pick up a scavenger hunt sheet at the nature center and return it by 4 p.m. for a prize. FREE.

Animal Tales
April 26 from 11 am-12 pm at Woodland Mound/Seasongood Nature Center
Nature has many stories to tell. Families are invited to join us for a nature-themed story.

Healthy Kids Day
April 28 from 10 am-2 pm at Winton Woods/Parky’s Farm
Get moving and enjoy Healthy Kids Day with fitness class demos, scavenger hunts, an inflatable bounce house, wagon rides and more. We will be joined by the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati. FREE.

International Sculpture Day
April 29 at Pyramid Hill
Enjoy FREE admission to Pyramid Hill in honor of International Sculpture Day! Pyramid Hill celebrates International Sculpture Day in partnership with UC DAAP, Miami University Hamilton, Miami University Oxford, Art Academy of Cincinnati, Lunatic Fringe Salon and IVY salon in Hamilton.

RAPTOR Inc. Open House
April 29 from 1-4 pm at RAPTOR Inc.
RAPTOR Inc. hosts free open house events the last Sunday of each month from March-November. Join them for tours, educational programs with their avian ambassadors, special activity stations and more! FREE.

Canstruction® 2018
April 10-29 at the Weston Gallery
Organized by the Cincinnati chapters of the American Institute of Architects and the Society for Design Administration, Canstruction® is an international design/build competition of the architecture and engineering industry that unites the love of design, art, creative thinking, competition, and public service. Local teams race to build whimsical sculptures created entirely from canned and packaged food. After the event, all “building materials” are donated to the Freestore Foodbank. FREE.

Painted Pots Week
April 13-28 from 11 am-4 pm (closed Sundays) at Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve/Nature’s Niche
Celebrate spring by decorating a clay pot! Paint a pot and leave it for others to enjoy for no fee or pay a small fee to take it home with you. Pots will be hung in the trees throughout the park, where they will remain through the end of May. FREE.
