A day in the life…

One of the more interesting things about having a news reporter in your family is that occasionally, on a mundane Monday, a camera crew shows up at your house to shoot promotional videos. When there’s also a musician in the family, occasionally, on a rainy Wednesday afternoon, a huge tour bus with a band on board shows up in your driveway.

Daisy applauded when the bus rolled up on our street. Ian was heading out for a gig playing drums with country singer Jason Sturgeon. Calvin and Clara took a break from homework and reading to pose for a few photos with the singer and check out the interior of the bus. I hear it is significantly more luxurious than the yellow school bus that normally shows up on our street. The kids climbed into daddy’s bunk, helped load some drums, and waved goodbye as the bus rolled on down the road.

Then it was back to spelling homework, hamburger helper, cleaning rooms, playing with toys, entertaining the baby. Just another day in the life of an unconventional family.

NEW NEPHEW

I couldn’t stop staring yesterday at the beautiful little photo my dad emailed me. My newest nephew was born. Zach is 8 pounds, 9 ounces, plump and adorable. (I don’t want to share his pic without their permission but trust me – it’s a sweet little face!) I am thrilled for my brother and sister-in-law, who are now parents to TWO goregous kids. I walked around all day announcing the news to anyone who cared to listen.

Being an auntie is so awesome. I can’t wait to cuddle this little guy and get to know him. I can’t wait to hug and congratulate my younger brother and his wife, who feels more like a sister to me than an “in-law” since I have no sisters of my own. And I really can’t wait to see my 3-year-old niece in her new role – the one I loved so much as a child and still love today – as a big sister to a baby brother. Congratulations to the growing family!
